STEPHEN WARD STARTS ETHICS WEBSITE

Stephen J. A. Ward, currently Professor and Director of the George S. Trumbull Center of the University of Oregon's School of Journalism and Communication in Portland, and formerly director of the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of British Columbia and the first James E. Burgess Professor of Journalism Ethics and founder of the Center for Journalism Ethics at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin--Madison has launched a Website to explore the ethics of journalism in a global world.
 
The new Website is called Media Morals: Supporting Responsible Journalism Around The World. Wendy Swanberg, a journalism historian and former news producer, edits the site. Media Morals will feature a systematic code of ethics for global media, based on principles developed by Ward over the years. It will also feature articles by prominent contributing writers.
 
Ward is a prolific and internationally recognized  professor and author whose works in media have influenced the development of the field in both theory and practice.

International Communications Association Conference – May 22-26, 2014

The theme for the International Communications Association’s (ICA) 64th Annual Conference this year is Communication and “the Good Life.” The new media environment raises a multitude of questions, and thus invites considered reflection, about what a “good life” might look like in a contemporary, digital, and networked society, and what new challenges we might face in attaining it. ICA’s Annual Conference will be held at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel. ICA has secured discounted rooms for attendees at the conference hotel. 39th Annual National Association of Black Journalists Convention & Career Fair - July 30-August 3, 2014

The 2014 Annual Convention and Career Fair will be held in Boston, at the Sheraton Boston Hotel and the Hynes Veterans Memorial Center. Thousands of journalists, media executives, public relations professionals and students are expected to attend in order to network, participate in professional development sessions and celebrate excellence in journalism. NABJ offers online conference registration for select conferences and meetings. Before March 15, 2014, non-members can register for $650 and student non-members can register for $310.


AEJMC Convention in Montreal - August 6-9, 2014

ASNE/APME Joint Convention - September 15-17, 2014

For the first time, the American Society of News Editors and the Associated Press Media Editors will meet together in September 2014 in Chicago, at the Hyatt Regency in the Loop. This first joint meeting will be building upon the success of ASNE’s 2013 June convention in D. C. and APME’s 80th anniversary conference in October 2013 in Indianapolis. Joint ASNE/APME committees already are planning various aspects of the 2014 conference, including programming and fundraising. In addition to ASNE and APME, the Associated Press Photo Managers will join the meeting. (Traditionally, APME and APPM have held their annual conferences together.) It’s too early to register or book your hotel room, but it’s not too early to mark your calendar.
